Pre-kindergarten
students learned
the importance
of fire safety
procedures from
Mrs. Kehoe, Miss
Gilmore and Mrs.
Merchant.They
concluded their
classroom
instruction with
a visit to the
Broad Street
Fire Station
where local
firemen gave
them tour of the
facility.
KINDERGARTEN
Kindergarten visited Monocacy
Creek and Green Pond at the Upper
School.The “catch of the day”
provided much
detailed information about
creek and pond life and the surrounding
areas.
FIRST
GRADE
First
Grade enjoyed a damp autumn day at
the Unangst Tree Farm.Prior to the pumpkin
picking event, they learned about
the different types of pumpkins.
They also enjoyed a wagon ride,
corn maze, corn jump and petting
zoo.
SECOND GRADE
Second
grade collected
various types of
leaves in God’s
Acre.They
continued
their
observations in
the classroom by
creating some leaf
rubbings.
THIRD
GRADE
Third Grade visited
Peace Valley Nature Center where
they learned about Native
Americans indigenous to eastern
Pennsylvania.They were shown animal
skins and “skin stories” and
learned how early peoples used the
wigwam and made a fire using a
spinner.Faculty and students
traveled to Greenkill Center for
an overnight field trip.They participated in
hiking, canoeing, and cooperative
groups projects. Students were
intrigued by a herpetologist who
shared a variety of animals. They
returned to the Lower School with
a better appreciation for our
environment.
FOURTH
GRADE
Fourth Grade
stayed local for their
overnight field trip.After a visit to
the Lehigh Valley Heritage
Center where they learned
how to write with quill
pens, they set up camp at
the DaVinci Science Center
in Allentown.Students
investigated workshops
focused on weather with
activities involving
tornado and hail making,
convection currents and
wind patterns. After a
good night’s sleep they
went spelunking and
panning for gemstones at
Crystal Cave.
FIFTH
GRADE
It was
Philadelphia-bound for the fifth
graders. They took a historic trip
through Philadelphia stopping
briefly at Independence Hall.Students gathered
information and experienced
“hands-on” activities such as
rock climbing at the Franklin
Institute followed by a visit to
the Mandell Center for the Real
Pirates exhibition.
